Eugene, OR – On December 14 at 3:19 a.m., a man was driving his vehicle east on W. 6th (wrong-way), and a Eugene Police sergeant was going west on W. 6th. The sergeant activated his overhead emergency lights to alert the vehicle’s driver it was going the wrong way, and to pull over.
The vehicle, a Mazda MPV mini van, continued to travel the wrong way on W. 6th, so the sergeant turned around to stop it. It continued east to Jefferson, then turned onto Jefferson and stopped mid-block, where the sergeant contacted the driver and got him to turn the engine off.

The sergeant called in an EPD DUII officer for an investigation. Springfield Police drug recognition expert conducted a follow-up at Springfield Jail. The driver, Levi Edward Kovalski, age 24, of Stayton, Oregon, was found to be under the influence. He had two previous DUII convictions, so was lodged for DUII – Felony, Reckless Driving, Driving While Suspended.
