Eugene, Ore. – The Eugene Police Department is advising motorists to avoid Hwy 99N between Bethel Dr & Fairfield Ave due to a traffic collision causing traffic congestion and delays. Hwy 99N is closed in both directions. Motorists are urged to use alternative routes of travel and avoid the area. Delays are expected to last for at least the next several hours.
UPDATE:
At 7:47 p.m. today, January 18, Eugene Police and Springfield Fire EMS responded to a hit and run crash between a motorcycle and a vehicle in the 1300 block of Hwy. 99. The driver of the vehicle was located a short time later at Fairfield and Wood and is now cooperating. The motorcyclist was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. EPD’s Major Collision Investigation team responded and is investigating the crash. Incident 22-0016906

Update from EPD:
Eugene Police arrested the driver, AMANDA MARIE KEIRCE , age 32, of Eugene, on a charge of Hit and Run – Felony.
The motorcyclist, Dennis Ekstrand, age 55, of Eugene, remains hospitalized.
