Suspected DUII Driver Hits Subaru, Sends Subaru into EPD Patrol Car

Eugene, Ore. – At 11:37 p.m. on February 26, a Eugene Police officer in a patrol SUV was stopped at a red light at West 6th Avenue and Blair Boulevard.

There was a Subaru Baja SUV stopped behind her. A Nissan Sentra being driven westbound on W. 6th struck the Subaru from behind the impact forced the Subaru into the back of the officer’s patrol vehicle.

The officer quickly requested Eugene Springfield Fire EMS response after she saw the Subaru’s male driver quickly exit his vehicle, appearing to be injured. He was evaluated by paramedics for minor injuries at the scene. The officer was not injured.

 

The Sentra’s driver, Shelby Lynn Mathews, age 32, of Eugene, appeared to be intoxicated and after an investigation she was cited in lieu of custody for Driving Under the Influence and Reckless Driving. Case 23-02978
