Springfield Police respond to shooting

On November 18th, 2021 around 4:30 pm Springfield Police responded to a shooting at an apartment complex in the area of Prescott and West Centennial. A male victim was found alive with multiple gunshot wounds. The male was transported to the hospital where he remains in critical condition.

 

Responding officers and detectives quickly secured the scene and started identifying witnesses, some of whom were able to identify the shooting suspect by name. Additional responding units started checking the area for the suspect. Based on witness statements, and assistance of a Springfield Police K9, the suspect was tracked back to an apartment in a neighboring apartment complex.

The apartment was surrounded and eventually contact was made with 2 individuals inside. Both complied with directions given by police and exited the apartment. The second occupant to exit was the shooting suspect, 30 year old Jason Grayson. Grayson was taken into custody without incident.

 

Grayson was later lodged at the Lane County Jail on multiple charges including: Attempted Murder, Assault I, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and Unlawful use of a Weapon. Grayson also had multiple warrants out for his arrest.
