Springfield, Ore. – On May 12th at 9:21pm a Patrol Officer attempted to catch up to a speeding motorcycle on Hwy 126 Eastbound near Mohawk Blvd. The motorcycle took the 42nd St exit. Rather than stopping, the motorcycle maneuvered around another car and a pursuit ensued Southbound on 42nd St reaching a top speed of 70 MPH.
The suspect continued Westbound on Main St ultimately turning Northbound on 14th St. Assisting Officers blocked traffic on Mohawk Blvd. The suspect turned East on Yolanda and then back South to 28th St and Marcola Rd. He ran a red light at that intersection clipping the front end of a Westbound truck (which had the right of way). He exited the roadway into a grassy field where it appears he rolled the bike. He suffered a broken left foot after hitting the truck and was transported to a local Hospital for treatment. The driver of the truck was uninjured. The suspect was identified as DESTIN MICHAEL WILDE a 28 year old male of Springfield.
This is the 4th instance where a motorcycle has fled a traffic stop in the last week and a half. The suspect was not apprehended in those cases, and Officers are evaluating evidence to see if they are connected. The Springfield Police Department is asking anyone with information regarding the unsolved cases to call 541-726-3714.
