Eugene, Ore. – Eugene Police received an online crime tip reporting that on January 19 at around 11:50 a.m., a man stood outside Cesar Chavez Elementary School classroom window masturbating while students were inside.
A Eugene Police Special Investigations Unit detective opened an investigation. He found this had not been the first incident with the individual, as the man had previously been reported masturbating near the school in October 2021, and when contacted by staff had left the area. At that time, Patrol officers responded to the area, but were unable to locate him.
As the SIU detective began working the case, he discovered that numerous callers had reported a disorderly man matching that description on a previous occasion, December 10, 2021, at 10:33 a.m. He was reported to be at Bi-Mart, 1680 W. 18th, and was throwing a knife around and swinging it at nearby trees. On that occasion, a Eugene Police Patrol officer had located and arrested the person on warrants, identifying him as DEAN MICHAEL SEXTON, age 30, of Eugene. 21-19428
After further investigation, the detective was able to determine this was the same suspect. On February 3 at 3:11 p.m., he and another SIU detective located Sexton on the bike path between Cesar Chavez Elementary School and Albertson’s. The Patrol officer who had arrested Sexton in December happened to be nearby and was called to stop Sexton for detectives. The officer stopped Sexton on the bike path near Grant Street and detectives followed up, arresting Sexton on two counts of Public Indecency and one count of Criminal Trespass in the Second Degree. Cases 22-01938 and 22-01180
