Springfield, OR. – Recognizing a series of convenience store burglaries, largely occurring in the early morning hours, Springfield Police officers have been conducting focused patrols near area convenience stores. On June 21st at 0130 hours, an officer performing observation near the DariMart store located at 995 Hayden Bridge Road noticed a vehicle circling the location.
The vehicle returned moments later and several individuals, later determined to be juveniles, approached the store with one of the juveniles throwing an item through a window. The group quickly made entry into the location as the officer approached to make contact. Additional resources responded to the area while contact was made with the individuals as they emerged from the store. One juvenile surrendered immediately while two others fled on foot. Both would return and be arrested in full compliance with officer commands and without confrontation. All three were arrested.
An officer responding to assist was able to locate the vehicle nearby. The juvenile driver was contacted and arrested without incident.
While officers were continuing the investigation, an alarm call was received from the Get N Go Market at 3444 Main Street. Officers responded to the area and found a window broken at the location. Witnesses were able to provide descriptions of the suspects. An officer contacted a male juvenile matching the description provided by the witnesses. The juvenile briefly ran from the officer on foot, but the officer gave verbal commands to the juvenile to stop and he was taken into custody without use of force.
