Fatal Vehicle vs Pedestrian Crash- HWY 126E

Lane County, Ore. – On Thursday, January 5, 2023, at approximately 6:09 P.M., the Oregon State Police responded to a vehicle versus pedestrian crash on Hwy 126E, near milepost 14.2, in Lane County.

The preliminary investigation indicated a pedestrian, Brandon Philes (50) of Springfield, was walking on the eastbound fog line of Hwy 126E, near milepost 14.2, when he was struck by an eastbound Subaru Outback, operated by Frank King III (66) of Springfield. The pedestrian, Philes, was declared deceased, at the scene by, medical personnel.

The highway remained partially open during the 3 hour crash scene investigation.

OSP was assisted by the Lane County Sheriffs’ Office, Mckenzie Fire, the Lane County Medical Examiner, the Lane County District Attorney’s Office, and ODOT.
