Eugene, Ore. – A Eugene man was sentenced to 7 years in prison Thursday, 3/16/23, for a 2020 homicide.
MARTIN THOMAS JOYCE originally had been charged with murder for the 2020 death. Joyce plead guilty to one count of criminally negligent homicide earlier this month on the 13th, and was sentenced Thursday to 7 years in prison, minus any time spent in county lock up.
Joyce, as of today, has spent 2 Years, 8 Months, and 12 Days in the Lane County Jail. That time will go against his sentence. That leaves approx. 4 years, 4 month for his time in prison.
Joyce will be eligible for good time, and early release as this is not a measure 11 charge/conviction. Joyce, once released from prison, will have 3 years of
Post-Prison Supervision (PPS), parole basically.
Joyce is currently still in the Lane County Jail awaiting transport to Coffee Creek Correctional Facility where he will be lodged for intake. Then transferred to an all male prison.

Suspect in fatal shooting in River Rd. area arrested for Murder
On 7/5/2020 at 7:03 p.m., the Lane County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a gunshot wound at a residence on Smithoak Street in North Eugene. Deputies arrived and located a deceased male with a gunshot wound and two other males at the home. Initial investigation indicates the three males lived together and were engaged in a physical dispute over living arrangements just prior to the shooting.
Deputies investigated the death and have arrested 59 year old Martin Joyce of Eugene who was lodged at the Lane County Jail on Murder. (edited)
