Salem, Ore. – On February 25, 2022, investigators were called to the scene of a suspicious death on Vernon Street NE near Herrin Road NE in the unincorporated area of East Salem. Investigators spent several hours processing the scene and canvasing the surrounding area.
The victim has been identified as Roberto Gorie (37) of Salem. On February 26, 2022, an autopsy was performed, determining the manner of death to have been homicide caused by gunshot wounds.
Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Unit are continuing to follow up on investigative leads. No arrests for the homicide have been made. At approximately 7:22 p.m. on February 25, 2022, a 911 caller reported a motor vehicle crash in a residential area in the unincorporated area of East Salem. Deputies along with emergency services personnel responded to Vernon Street NE near Herrin Road NE where they located a black Honda Civic on its top. The lone person in the vehicle had suspicious injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Investigators from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Unit and multi-agency CRASH team were called in to investigate. Deputies are treating this as a suspicious death, the cause and manner of death have not yet been determined. This is an active investigation; no additional information is available for release at this time.
