Springfield, Ore. – On June 6th, 2022 at 4:18 PM an observant community member contacted the Springfield Police Department to report they were actively following a male suspect who unsuccessfully attempted to abduct a child in the area of South 48th Street near Daisy Street in Springfield.
The involved child has been located and is safely at home with their family.

Tanner Hoover 28, Ashland, Oregon
The community member was able to provide a vehicle description and the direction they were headed. Due to the quick reactions of the community member and their observations, officers from multiple surrounding agencies responded to locate the suspect and his vehicle.
The suspect, Tanner Hoover, 28, of Ashland, Oregon, attempted to flee the area near Camp Creek Road and Hwy 126. When law enforcement located and attempted to contact Hoover via a traffic stop, he immediately stopped his vehicle and took his own life.

The Springfield Police Department would like to thank the involved community member for the actions they took to help protect this child in our community.
At this time the investigation is ongoing to determine if there are any other individuals who may have information or have been affected and to obtain a clearer understanding of the events that took place. Springfield Police will provide an updated press release once more facts are obtained.
