Albany, Ore. – On Saturday, December 25, 2021, at 5:25am Albany Police Officers conducted a traffic stop in the 2500 block of 8TH Avenue, Albany, Oregon. The operator fled on foot and fired one gunshot at pursuing officers.

Neither officer was hit by the gunfire. One officer sustained minor injuries from flying debris. Officers took cover and the suspect was not located. The operator was identified as 52 year old Robin Ray Gilliland of Albany.
Today, December 28, 2021 investigators learned the whereabouts of Gilliland and due to the serious nature of the incident the Linn Benton Regional SWAT Team was deployed. Gilliland was taken into custody without incident at a residence in the 800 block of 5th Ave. Albany. He was arrested for outstanding felony warrants and two counts of Attempted Aggravated Murder and will be lodged at the Linn County Jail.
Chief Marcia Harnden was relieved the suspect was taken into custody without incident and said, “We are glad the arrest went without any use of force. This suspect was a significant threat to public safety after firing at Albany officers.”
This is an active investigation and no further information will be released at this time.
